FG Begins Comprehensive Oversight of 760 Federal Road Projects Worth Over ₦36tr With ICPC Support

By Vivian Daniel

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has partnered with the Federal Ministry of Works to launch a sweeping nationwide audit of 760 federal road projects worth more than ₦36 trillion, marking an unprecedented collaboration to improve transparency in Nigeria’s public infrastructure investments.

The Special Tracking Exercise, which began on November 14, 2025, involves multidisciplinary teams comprising ICPC investigators, engineers from the Federal Ministry of Works, and independent professionals, including members of the Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (NIQS). The teams were dispatched across all states and the FCT to conduct physical verification of project execution.

The exercise is structured to achieve four major objectives: enhancing fiscal governance, protecting procurement processes from fraud, compelling contractor accountability, and recovering public funds linked to non-performance or inflated costs.

A statement from the Commission, duly signed by its Spokesperson, John Okor Odey (ANIPR), on 8 December 2025, described the initiative as transformative, noting:
“This exercise represents a proactive, system-driven approach to safeguarding our national infrastructure investments. Tracking 760 projects of this magnitude underscores our resolve to partner with government institutions in closing leakages, promoting accountability, and ensuring that public projects translate into tangible public good.”

Upon completion of the field assessment, state-level findings will be consolidated into a comprehensive national audit report. The report is expected to highlight compliance strengths, uncover irregularities, and inform future enforcement actions by relevant authorities.

The ICPC emphasised that the collaboration reflects a renewed commitment to improving Nigeria’s infrastructure delivery framework, ensuring that public resources allocated for national development are properly utilised.
