ICPC Names John Okor Odey as Spokesperson to Lead Media and Public Communications Unit

In a strategic move to strengthen its media and public engagement, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has appointed John Okor Odey as its new Spokesperson and head of the newly established Media and Public Communications Unit under the Office of the Honourable Chairman.

Odey succeeds Demola Bakare (fsi), and brings a wealth of professional experience spanning editing, broadcast, and strategic communications.

The Commission emphasised that his appointment is aimed at enhancing public awareness of ICPC initiatives and supporting ongoing transparency and anti-corruption efforts nationwide.

“Odey has served in several strategic capacities across Public Enlightenment, Protocol, and Zonal Operations, and his expertise in media and public communication will be invaluable as the Commission strengthens its engagement with stakeholders,” the ICPC stated.

His career began in the newsroom as an editor and later as a scriptwriter and presenter, where he honed skills in content creation and public messaging. Since joining the ICPC, he has taken on key roles in public enlightenment and strategic messaging, with a focus on promoting integrity, transparency, and accountability.

Academically, Odey holds a Bachelor’s degree in English/Literature, a Master’s degree in Leadership Studies, and an MPhil in Leadership and Strategic Studies. Additionally, he possesses a Professional Diploma in Public Relations and is a certified member of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR).

Responding to his appointment, the Commission expressed confidence that John Okor Odey will significantly enhance the ICPC’s communication strategies and public visibility.

“His wealth of experience and professional credentials position him to effectively lead the Media and Public Communications Unit in promoting transparency, integrity, and citizen engagement,” the statement added.

On behalf of the ICPC, the announcement was formally signed on 20 November 2025 by Clifford Okwudiri Oparaodu, Esq, DSSRS, JP, strengthening the Commission’s commitment to strategic communication as a core tool in the fight against corruption and the promotion of ethical governance in Nigeria.
